26 February, 2027 - Valletta, Malta

In conjunction with the 19th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence - ICAART 2027

CO-CHAIRS

Afef Mdhaffar
ReDCAD, ENIS, University of Sfax
Tunisia

Short Bio
Afef Mdhaffar is an Associate Professor of computer science at the National School of Engineering of Sfax (ENIS), University of Sfax, and an Associate Researcher at the ReDCAD Laboratory. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Marburg, Germany, in 2014 and her habilitation (HDR) from the university of Sfax in 2023. Her research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge AI, cloud computing and e-health. She has been actively involved in five national and international research projects, focusing on the application of AI, IoT, and data analytics to address real-world challenges, particularly in healthcare, environmental monitoring, and agriculture. Her research activities have resulted in numerous scientific publications and the supervision of Ph.D., master's, and engineering students in areas including lightweight AI, physiological signal analysis, epileptic seizure prediction, federated learning, and smart agriculture. In 2024, she co-chaired the inaugural Workshop on Lightweight AI-based Services (LAIS 2024), held in conjunction with ICSOC 2024, together with Prof. Dr. Bernd Freisleben.

SCOPE

Artificial Intelligence (AI) services increasingly rely on deep learning models with substantial computational and memory requirements, making deployment challenging on resource-constrained edge and IoT devices. The Second Workshop on Lightweight AI-based Services (LAIS) brings together researchers and practitioners from AI, service computing, edge computing, and embedded systems to explore methods for designing, optimizing, deploying, and operating efficient AI services. The workshop covers model compression, quantization, pruning, knowledge distillation, neural architecture search, efficient inference, and resource-aware deployment. It also welcomes lightweight AI applications in healthcare, environmental monitoring, smart farming, and smart environments. LAIS further encourages research on privacy, security, sustainability, and ethical issues arising from deploying intelligent services on resource-constrained devices, while fostering collaboration and exchange across research communities and industry.
