Framework for Smart Space Application Development

Authors:

André Kaustell, M. Mohsin Saleemi, Thomas Rosqvist, Juuso Jokiniemi, Johan Lilius and Ivan Porres

Abstract: The smart space concept envisions interoperability for creating mult-idomain inter-device service mashups, and innovative applications. This paper presents an appraoch to create an abstraction layer and appropriate tools for rapid application development for the low-end devices that run agents to access a smart space. We present our proposed framework, describe the overall process for application development and explore the features of a real-world implementation. We describe a case study implementation to illustrate the functionality of the proposed framework. This case study shows that interoperability can be realized by the agents that describe information about themselves using some common ontology.

Framework Managing the Automated Construction and Runtime Adaptation of Service Mashups

Authors:

Anna Hristoskova, Bruno Volckaert and Filip De Turck

Abstract: With an increased deployment of new software services, reusing existing ones as building blocks to create new service mashups offers flexibility to the developer and accelerates the design process. In this way businesses are able to create value at reduced development time and cost. In order to allow for the automation of this emerging engineering methodology the paper presents a framework for the construction of new applications without the intervention of the ICT department. This framework offers the needed support through the use of planning algorithms automatically combining semantically enriched services into new mashups. The developed algorithms are optimized with runtime adaptation to changing user-context taking fully into account the provided quality of service parameters of the available building blocks. The enrichment of the available business services with semantics, reasoning, and at-runtime composition are evaluated by means of a framework providing a management interface for an e-shop application.

An Ontology-driven Proposal for Semantic Interaction among Heterogeneous Health Information Systems

Authors:

Idoia Berges, Jesús Bermúdez and Arantza Illarramendi

Abstract: The adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has brought multiple advantages to the healthcare area. However, the goal of achieving semantic interoperability of EHR information between heterogeneous Health Information Systems has not been accomplished yet. In such scenario, the purpose of this paper is twofold: On the one hand, the presentation of our ontology-based approach to the problem of EHR interoperability (restricted to the case of medical observations), which goes one step further with respect to other approaches for the same goal, and on the other hand, the presentation of two additional features that complement our approach: path mappings for transforming individuals that represent EHR information and rules for medical knowledge sharing.

Modeling Storage System Performance for Data Management in Cloud Environment using Ontology

Authors:

Stanislaw Polak, Darin Nikolow, Renata Slota and Jacek Kitowski

Abstract: The progress made in the field of Cloud computing and the continuously growing users demand for services with guaranteed storage performance parameters bring new challenges. The storage system monitoring, resource scheduling and performance prediction are essential for successful operation of the given distributed environment and for fulfillment of the Service Level Agreement. Taking into account the heterogeneity of storage resources in distributed environments it is essential to provide a transparency of monitored storage system performance parameters. In this paper we present a common storage system model regarding Quality of Service requirements and dynamics of performance parameters. We also present the process of the storage ontology development based on this model, and we show an use-case of the proposed ontology in a storage monitoring service.

Title:

Relevance and Usage of Semantic Technologies in the Factory of Things

Authors:

Matthias Loskyll

Abstract: The Factory of Things (FoT) describes the extension of the Internet of Things specific to the production domain. The semantic description of products, processes and plants depicts a basic module of this approach, through which information can be filtered and services can be discovered and orchestrated on demand. The usage of semantic technologies in the context of production can make a valuable contribution towards managing the growing complexity and increasing the flexibility and adaptability of production facilities. This position paper discusses several use cases, which explain the potential advantages of using semantic technologies in the field of production automation. These scenarios cover the interpretation of heterogeneous context data using ontologies, the semantic description of facilities including the respective components (e.g. sensors), and the orchestration of semantically annotated web services to build complex production processes. Based on the described use cases, several scientific issues are discussed with a special focus on semantic interoperability.

On the Use of an Ontology to Improve the Interoperability and Accesibility of the Electronical Health Records (EHR)

Authors:

Belen Prados Suárez, Carlos Molina, Miguel Prados and Carmen Peña

Abstract: In this paper we present a proposal to conceptualize the EHR, based on the semantic description of the information, according to the documentary structures and the clinical aspects of the EHR contents. Our aim here is to perform a formalization with a double purpose: on one hand to enable the interoperability; on the other hand, to improve the accessibility to the EHR, according to clinical or assistance contexts, provi-ding the clinical data retrieval system with flexibility and operativity. To this purpose we propose the use of an Ontology to represent this conceptualization, and include properties and relations between the components of the EHR.

Ontology for Simulation of Ambient Assisted Living Environments

Authors:

Juan B. Mocholí, Pilar Sala, Juan C. Naranjo, Vicente Traver and Carlos Fernández-Llatas

Abstract: This paper describes the ontologies developed in the framework of the European project VAALID. They are a set of OWL ontologies that are used to define Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) solutions, providing the semantics to model services, the actors involved in the service, AAL environments and their spaces, devices and furniture. The ontologies also include concepts to model the interaction among all the parts of the AAL solution, which mainly define requirements and restrictions. The model of interaction is based on the Common Access Profile.

Document Clustering using Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm with Different Feature Selection Methods

Authors:

Jung Song Lee, Lim Cheon Choi and Soon Cheol Park

Abstract: Multi-objective genetic algorithm for the document clustering is proposed in this paper. The researches of the document clustering using k-means and genetic algorithm are much in progress. k-means is easy to be implemented but its performance much depends on the first stage centroid values. Genetic algorithm may improve the clustering performance but it has the disadvantage to trap in the local minimum value easily. However, Multi-objective genetic algorithm is stable for the performances and avoids the disadvantage of genetic algorithms in our experiments. The several feature selection methods are applied to and compared with those clustering algorithms. Consequently, Multi-objective genetic algorithms showed about 20% higher performance than others.

Document Clustering based on Genetic Algorithm using D-Individual

Authors:

Lim Choen Choi and Soon Cheol Park

Abstract: Document clustering using genetic algorithm shows good performance. However the genetic algorithm has problem of performance degradation by premature convergence phenomenon. In this paper, we proposed the document clustering based on Genetic Algorithm using D-Individual (DIGA) to solve this problem. Genetic algorithm is based on the diversity of population and the capability to convergence. Success of genetic algorithm depends on these two factors. If we use these factors efficiently, we can get a better solution in reduced execution time. We apply DIGA to Reuter-21578 text collection and demonstrate the effect of our clustering algorithm. The results show that our DIGA has better performance than traditional clustering algorithms (K-means, Group Average and genetic algorithm) in various experiments.
